Watercolor Cake with Peonies

Always love getting to try new things on a cake.  This cake was decorated using a buttercream water color technique.  It was surprisingly easy and fun to do.  I then top the cake with peonies and other petal flowers.  The cake is (one of my personal favorites) my ultimate chocolate chip cookie dough cake with chocolate ganache and cookie dough buttercream.

Air Show

Yesterday, Karl and I took the boys to the Hill Air Force Base Air Show.  I had never been to one and it was awesome. The boys were in awe of the tricks and stunts and Fischer kept asking, "how do they do that?"  Karl kept saying he went into the wrong profession and was curious what it would cost to ride along.  Guess even grown up boys are always kids at heart.  The stunts these planes do is amazing.  It's a bit of a picture overload but we really enjoyed the show.
We started our day by taking the Frontrunner train. The boys were excited to get to ride the train.
Since we arrived a bit early we were able to stop and look at some of the different planes they had on display.  Fischer thought it was super cool that you could go inside a few of them.

Sitting in one of the cargo planes

This plane was SO big.  I couldn't get a picture of it all unless I was WAY back.

The show started with some fun high flying sky divers.

Karl was so good to lift the kids up so they could see one of the events where a plane raced against a car

Drake was so cute playing "peek-a-boo" behind the stroller

Karl had gotten the kids slushies. Griffin had a blast feeding Drake.
Karl and I loved this number.  It was their Heritage piece.  It was a side by side of the same plane back in the 60s and now. It was cool to hear about the facts of the planes and how they have evolved.

Watching all the different planes go by gets a bit exhausting.

One on One Time

Karl and I have been trying to be better about giving the boys one on one time with both Mom and Dad.  I always have a blast seeing each of the kids come alive as they talk non-stop about things that are interesting to them.  I really love this time with the boys and hope its something we can continue to do as they get older.
Dad was out of town so I thought i would surprise the boys by going and getting icecream
Karl took a night to take Griffin golfing.  He could not wait for Daddy to get home from work so he could go.

Griffin and I went out for dinner and a movie
Karl took Fischer for a day of camping, fishing, and sleeping under the stairs in the back of the truck.

The Bachelorette Bracket

Karl is going to hate me for posting this picture but I can't help but laugh every time I see it.  He gives me so much crap about watching the bachelor/bachelorette but deep down he loves the drama just as much if not more.  When his work put together a bachelorette bracket for this season he was all sorts of into it.  Every Monday he pulls out his bracket to see where he ranks.

Spa Cake

Nothing better then a day at the spa except perhaps this fun spa themed cake to go with your day of rest and relaxation.  Made this cake for my niece's spa themed birthday party.

Bears, Bows, and Flowers Baby Shower

Earlier today the Christensen girls came together to throw my Sister-in-law Robyn a baby shower.  I really couldn't be more excited for her. I know she is going to make a great mother even if she feels like she has no idea what she is doing. Who does?  Brooke and I came together and came up with the idea of bears, bows and flowers for this shower.  Robyn collects bears from different places she's been so we felt having a baby shower representing bears was perfect.
The Mother to be.
DECORATION
I really have to give a shout out to Brooke (My SIL) she really is a master when it comes to decorating. It was her ideas and creativity that made this shower come together the way it did.

The table allowed guest to write something silly or fun on a diaper, guess how many teddy grahams were in the container, and address an envelope for a chance to win a prize.

The cradle was made by my father-in-law and the bedding was sown by my mother in law.  They have made one for each  of their kids family.  The craftsmanship behind it is stunning and so touching.  I know Robyn will love hers as much as I have loved mine.
With so many cute bears it only seemed appropriate to add an even cuter girl.
The Christensen ladies.  We make a great team.
 CAKE and CUPCAKES
I had the honor of being in charge of the cake and cupcakes.  The bear is frosted in all buttercream with fondant details.  The floral cupcakes were done out of buttercream as well. The cupcakes ended up being a bit more labor intensive then I had anticipated but it was well worth the effort. I was pleased with the outcome of it all and thought it turned out really cute.

THE FOOD
For lunch we all came together and made sweet pork salad/burritos.  Everything tasted great.

Kaylee even went to the trouble to cut out watermelon bears

 THE PARTY
Robyn got some really cute stuff.

As Brooke was trying to get pictures of Robyn opening presents Rachel keep stepping in front of her trying to see inside the camera.
I'm glad we were able to work together to make this a fun day for Robyn.  I hope she felt loved and knows how excited we are for her.
